So, in spite of many people disappearing off to Kyrgyzstan this summer, we are organising a trip to the Austrian Alps.
Location:
Initially in the Otztal Alps for those doing the course, then either moving to a different valley in the same area, or roaming further afield.
Dates:
Course dates are 22-28th July. After which we will be spending about a week to ten days doing our own thing. We haven't chosen that area yet, but it will be somewhere that there is a variety of terrain available, to include opportunity for walking, mountaineering, valley climbing and potentially some via ferrata depending on the area.
People:
Several of us are intending to do the Alpine Skills Course run by the Alpenverein Akademie, based in the Valley to the south of Imst in the Tyrol region, specifically from the village of Mandarfen.
People on course (22-28/07/12):
- David M
- Andrena
- Becky H
People for after course, from 28th (include potential leaving date):
- David M
- Becky - keen for another 10 days in the Alps
Transport:
Three main ways of getting there I can see, Road, Rail or Air. Bus is likely to be the cheapest by a large margin.
Bus - Eurolines coach (open return ~£92) will take you to Munich from where you can catch a train to Imst and then a bus up the valley. Bus up the valley runs ~hourly every day, until 19:35.
Train - Eurostar to paris and then train through switzerland to Imst?
Air?
Dave M - Not booked yet, but will be going on the 14:00 friday afternoon bus from victoria, arriving munich 12:00 saturday 21st, in time to get right up to Mandarfen on satuday evening.
Becky - Flying cost £127
