Cooking for Brecon Beacons Trip, 25th-27th November 2011

This is a wiki (editable web page) to organise cooking for the CUHWC trip to Godre Pentre cottage in the Brecon Beacons this (25th-27th November) weekend. All crockery, cutlery, utensils, pots and pans are provided. The club will supply cooking oil.

Click edit at the top to change the text (you'll need to be logged in to your account on the website first - click here to register if you don't have one). You can either suggest a meal idea or join one of the existing ones and you're obviously also welcome to sort yourself out (move your name to 'Independent'). Please remove your name from the 'Trip list' section too once you're in a group or have decided to cook alone. The person who suggests the meal is responsible for arranging the ingredients - everyone else in the group should bring money on the trip to pay for their share, and expect to help with the preparation and washing up.

Timetable
Meal suggestions by Tuesday evening. Finalise groups by Wednesday night so the person suggesting the meal knows how much they have to buy and has a couple of days to do the shopping.

Spaghetti Verde + Banoffee Pie (vegetarian)

As the name suggests, this is going to be a very green meal (unless I accidentally buy anything red):
Spaghetti, Green Pesto, Peas, Mange Tout, Courgette, Green Pepper (+ potentially other green vegetables - leeks?) There will be more than enough carbs and plenty of your 5 a day - what more could you want after a day on the hill?!

Pudding: Banoffee Pie (unless anyone suggests anything they'd prefer and assuming I get back in time to make it this time)

  • Tom
  • Mark (I'll bring some green food colouring in case anybody accidentally brings anything non-green)

Andrew - if you stop updating the wiki, other people might be able to edit it. And you might get some work done. [Could only be Dave]

  • How could this only be me? (Apart from the revisions log, and Andrew watching the page all week?) [DF]
  • The "Could only be Dave" comment was written by MJ. [AW]
  • It sounded like Dave. [MJ]

Someone has to correct (meaningless) errors… Thankfully, in this case, that someone no longer has all that much work to do… [AW]

Want some of mine? (ktj)

No. I still have enough to do - planning various efficient bagging routes and the like. I'll let you know if this changes though... [AW]

Surely that's just a variant of the travelling salesman problem? It's already been solved... [JH]

Oh my... That's actually quite interesting. [AW]

I don't think the travelling salesman was concerned about the quality of his route though. Actually, come to think of it, I'm not always sure whether Andrew is concerned about that either... Hope you found a route that was both efficient and pleasant, anyway! [DP]

It was the Brecon Beacons. It rained. There was very little to see. My boots are still full of water. [MJ]

It was the Brecon Beacons. It rained all day Saturday; Sunday was fantastic. There was very little to see on Saturday; on Sunday, we saw what we should have seen on Saturday . My boots are still full of water. We bagged 10 Nuttalls. I am concerned with the quality of my routes. [AW]

Yep, I've had a look through your photos, Andrew. Interesting routes - not quite what I was expecting, but they look quite sensible actually! I guess when I'm planning routes I have the luxury of there always being a car going to wherever I want to start! Shame you couldn't admire the views from Pen y Fan. It sounds like you would not recommend a couple of your rough, wet ascent routes. Are the Beacons generally considered to be boring, Mark? I've only been once, but I thought they were quite impressive. [DP]
