Cooking for the Coniston Trip, November 2010

This is a wiki (editable web page) to organise cooking for the CUHWC trip to Coniston this weekend. The YMC Hut kitchen is fully equipped with two electric ovens and hobs, one large and one small fridge. All crockery, cutlery, utensils, pots and pans are also provided. The club will supply cooking oil.

Click edit at the top to change the text (you'll need to be logged in to your account the website first - click here to register if you don't have one). You can either suggest a meal idea or join one of the existing ones and you're obviously also welcome to sort yourself out (move your name to 'Independent'). The person who suggests the meal is responsible for arranging the ingredients - everyone else in the group should bring money on the trip to pay for their share, and expect to help with the preparation and washing up.

Timetable
Meal suggestions by Tuesday evening. Finalise groups by Wednesday night so the person suggesting the meal knows how much they have to buy and have a couple of days to do the shopping.

Almost Authentic American Thanksgiving

Betsy
Thanksgiving is this Thursday, so I thought I would try and bring a little of that tradition to the trip. Considering this is usually an all-day/multi-day cooking event, I can't unleash all the amazing, from-scratch handiwork, but it should still be tasty!

Mushrumbleondue :)

Starter: Garlic mushrooms, baguette & salad
Main: Roast vegetable & cheddar crumble pie
Pudding: CHOCOLATE FONDUE (a real one, with fondue-thing and fire and forks) with fruit etc

  • (and potential to set fire to the bunkhouse! [SW]
  • um. possibly. Is that an exclamation of concern or excitement..? [JP]
  • Judging by the original comment before it was revised, I'd guess at it being an expression of excitement [l|users/matthew-graham|Matt]
  • -which was..??!) [JP]
  • That would be Simon writing (I like the potential to set fire to the bunkhouse) after his name.. Sorry Simon, anything you write on this wiki stays in the records forever :-) [MJ]
  • I'd kind of guessed it was Simon somehow...
  • I've got a dual role in the club. Antisocial secretary and Unsafety officer. I feel that burning the bunkhouse down fulfills both these roles. I also like the sound of chocolate fondue!
  • Ha! It was the mention of fire that attracted you though. Admit it.

- FULL (filled up so quickly because it's clearly the best option [AW])

Does anybody else in this group want dark chocolate for their pudding? I'm getting some anyway so could get more - Kirsty

Veg soup...

Don't have time to sort out rest of the meal, but if anyone wants some soup I'll bring plenty of vegetables :-) It'll be vegan, but don't worry about that for other courses as Bethan's and Jane's!!:-) just offered that I can join her group for pudding (thankyou Jane and Bethan! :-)), so I'll just have soup and that, so anybody else wanting soup doesn't need to worry about my awkwardness. No particular limit on numbers for soup as long as I can carry enough vegetables.

Mulled Wine

  • Valerie
  • Tom - one bottle between Valerie and me
  • Andrew - bringing one bottle. Is that all for you or can I share? I probably won't want as much as half a bottle - Mark Yes, Mark, you can share. That's fine [AW]
  • Alastair
  • Dave - is taking a 3l box (serving a generous 6?)
  • Doug - Dave's box
  • Matthew - Dave's box
  • Kirsty - Dave's box
  • Jane - Dave's box
  • Simon - Dave's box
  • Jo (sharing with Michael)
  • Michael-Bringing a bottle (Jo you can share with me)
  • Oliver - one bottle - happy to share with one or two others

Is it worth taking 2 boxes? - that should be enough for everyone on this list? (JS) -possibly. I already have one box, not sure what anyone else has??
